Lesotho Council of NGOs convenes a three day National Community Parliament (11/11/15)

On Wednesday (11/11/15) men and women nominated by their communities met at AME Hall Maseru to dialogue on the community needs in a set up structured like a formal session of parliament called Community Parliament.

Community parliament is a platform where communities formally in the presence of government officials tables their needs with a hope that they will be addressed in the next budget allocation of the government. It is a strategy to influence the national budget allocations and also for the representatives to learn about government plans.

Speaking at the occasion, Ms. Mariam Homayoun representing the Delegation of the European Union to Lesotho said LCN and its members have been involved in a number of research to inform local policies and the National Community Parliament is just one of the few innovative platforms of engagement for communities to discuss issues of development and identify priority areas.

In an interview with Mr Qamo Molapo, he said he was happy to be part of the representatives who are the agents for development and change in their constituencies and added that he was happy with the presentation from the Rural Water Supply because water seems to be each and every community's need in Lesotho. He also added that we live in difficult times where women and children get raped from time to time due to having to fetch water from long distances.
